Pattern

  • 一番+形容詞 一番 + adjective
  • 範囲+の中で+一番+〜 range + の中で + 一番 + ~

How to use it

Place it before an adjective or a feeling word: 一番高い, 一番好き. The subject takes が (富士山が一番高いです).

Stating the range

Name the group for clarity: 日本で, 家族の中で. For example くだものの中で何が一番好きですか.

Compare with より

To compare two things use AよりBのほうが~. 一番 is for the top among three or more.

Examples

  • 富士山(ふじさん)が一番(いちばん)高(たか)いです。
