Pattern

How to use it

You offer an option to someone in trouble: A gentle recommendation, as in

Cautions

To a superior it can sound too pushy.

Examples

Why don't you have a doctor look at it once?

Tsukarete iru nara, sukoshi yasundara dō.

If you're tired, why don't you rest a little?

If you don't understand, why don't you try asking the teacher?

Common mistakes

  • With superiors use
  • It is a suggestion that leaves the choice to the listener, not an order.
