に関(かん)する / に関(かん)して (ni kan suru / ni kan shite)
~に関する/~に関して — concerning ~
Pattern
-
名詞+に関する+名詞noun + に関する + noun (環境に関する問題) -
名詞+に関して+動詞noun + に関して + verb (事故に関して調べる)
Choosing the form
Use に関する before a noun (歴史に関する本) and に関して before a verb (歴史に関して調べる). The polite form is に関しまして, and に関し links clauses.
Compared with について
The meaning is nearly the same, and について is the most ordinary choice. に関して feels broader, covering matters around the topic, and is preferred in writing and official documents. について pairs naturally with verbs like 話す, 考える and 聞く that deal directly with content.
Examples
